Congratulations! You’ve Decided To Get Into Politics!

Here we are. Day one. The first step in your journey into American politics.

You’ve made a great decision. It’s an exciting and (most of the time) rewarding experience that will set you off on a series of adventure that could take place in your own town or all over the country.

This is pretty much an introductory post.

What you’ll learn on this blog are the very first steps you’ll need to take to get started. Whether you’re looking at simply volunteering for a candidate you like, or looking for a complete career, there is something for everyone here.

We’re going to be focusing on mainly grassroots politics or “Get Out The Vote” (GOTV) methods. This will involve direct voter communications. This is where much of the battle will be won or lost.

Don’t worry. We’ll touch up on data, communications, and policy as well. During my long career, I’ve been fortunate to do almost all of it on every level. There is a lot of ground to cover.

This guidance can be used no matter what part of the political spectrum you’re on. Republican, Democrat, or Independent, there is something for everyone. And while every campaign is different, much of the tools and methods are the same.

And of course, I’ve done them all myself. That’s a big takeaway from this blog. These techniques work and are used industry wide. I know them. I trust them.

So, once more, welcome to the battle. Campaigning changes you for the better. And if you truly come to love it, there will be few other things you’d rather be doing.
