Political Campaign Door Knocking 101: The Importance Of Campaign Management In The Field
As in-depth as this blog is going to get when it comes to knocking on doors, you will have questions. There will be something related to the platform, or some little nuances that will spawn a question or a complete line of questions.
This is why constant communication with your field manager is important. Especially as a beginner.
The truth is that for all of the preparation that we can do here, the campaign is going to have specifics on how they want their voter outreach conducted.
Getting asked the same question at every door that you haven’t already been prepared for? Ask the campaign.
Are there neighborhoods that have certain restrictions on visitors? Ask the campaign.
Are you running into the same problem over and over? Let the campaign know.
And you shouldn’t be reluctant to ask questions either. Whenever I start on a campaign, I’ve got all of the gray area questions already teed up. I ask about a dozen questions during the training.
Why? Because they’re the only group who are going to have the answers.
Believe it or not, there are also going to be some questions you ask that they won’t have an immediate answer for.
This is because political campaigns are alive They grow and they evolve. I’ve been a part of some operations that become unrecognizable just a couple of weeks later because of changes that occur on the campaign trail.
Don’t ever be afraid to ask questions. Guessing an answer could do more damage than you intended.
