Dancing With The Stars: The Reason Viewers Don’t Like Whitney Leavitt
Season 34 of Dancing With The Stars is delivering on a higher level than any season in recent memory. This is because what looked like an underwhelming cast of celebrities on paper, is turning out to be the most conversation starting crew on television at the moment.
And Whitney Leavitt has a lot to do with that. Unfortunately for the wrong reasons.
Leavitt is the best non professional dancer on the show by quite a large margin. As her critics will point out, its because she’s essentially a professional, who studied performing arts in college and used to compete against Witney Carson. Fans enjoy a journey of success. Whitney doesn’t have a story to tell because she already knows how to dance.
There are the “Mormon Wives” ties. Any non Bachelor nation cross pollination to DWTS viewers feels like a hard sell. That’s the case here. Then she has a castmate in Jen Affleck, who was eliminated last night while clearly being the sweetheart to Leavitt’s villain.

Then there is the behavior on the broadcast. Whitney has been caught laughing during two eliminations, including Jen’s. She also takes up a lot of real estate on the QA stage and makes faces during the conversations.
But, you need a hard reason that can encompass all of these things.
The real reason that viewers don’t like Whitney Leavitt is because she “wants it too bad”.
There is something going on behind those eyes. She can’t help it. She’s like Tracy Flick in “Election”. She shifts gears when the camera is on her and I’m convinced there isn’t anything she wouldn’t do to win this competition. It’s fascinating. And it’s also kind of scary.
She might very well win it all. But what comes next? And are Disney audiences prepared for what Whitney Leavitt supremacy looks like?
I don’t know.
