Magic The Gathering: Ardent Dustspeaker Is Expensive Blocking And Card Draw

“Five mana? How much will a ‘Mildly Amused Dustpeaker’ cost me?

Intro: It’s true Ardent Dustspeaker is a little pricey for what it does. Five mana for what is a pretty vanilla creature illustrates that. But its got its perks, especially if you like to draw cards.

What The Card Actually Says: Whenever Ardent Dustspeaker Attacks you may put an instant or sorcery from your graveyard on the bottom of your library. If you do, exile the top two cards of your library. You may play those cards this turn.

“The Founder Dragons weren’t even hatched when this scroll was written!”

What’s Good: Two cards for one graveyard spell is a pretty good bargain, especially if the engine of your deck is running nicely. If an instant or sorcery has served its purpose, that card draw will only help. At 4 toughness, Ardent Dustspeaker is also a decent blocker to have on the board.

What’s Bad: At five mana he’s expensive for what he does and he doesn’t hit very hard for the cost.

The Verdict: Unless you’re running a deck that is heavy on instants and sorceries, I’d leave him out. That is too much mana for something quite a few artifacts and creatures can do at a lower price.

Do you have Ardent Dustpeaker in your deck? Let me know in the comments.
