Magic The Gathering: Hill Gigas Is An Instant Cause For Concern

“You’re telling me this Wal-Mart Akuma has haste?”
Intro: You’ve got to love a creature that can make a serious and immediate impact on a game. In that regard, Hill Gigas, a 5/4 with Trample and Haste can do just that, and become really scary if you’ve got the mana to spare.
What The Card Actually Says: Trample, Haste. Mountaincycling (2) (Discard this card: Search your library for a Mountain card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle)
This place is dangerous! Be careful!

The Good: It’s right there on the top line. Trample and haste make Hill Gigas a problem. If you’ve got the mana, you can drop him, and buff him with some instant +/+ cards. That’s going to be almost double digit damage from the jump. If you’re all set on creatures, you can always get the red mana with Mountaincycling.
The Bad: He’s 6 mana. He’s not going to get out very quickly. He’s also very loud. You can hit somebody hard once, but the table will notice.
The Verdict: I like this card. Specifically because he can become a problem in such a hurry. If you need some heavier creatures to diversify your deck, I would recommend Hill Gigas.
